2008 Summer Bridge at UCI in a Nutshell

How Summer Bridge Saves You Money

  • Your supplemental Summer Bridge Financial Aid Award (if eligible) plus Summer Bridge program funds pays on your behalf $1364.00 in Summer Session fees (estimate, based on course schedule); $1650.00 in Room and Board; and $1951.00 (estimate) for books, supplies, and personal expenses, as well as supplemental instruction and program activities – an estimated total value of $4965.00!
  • The supplemental Summer Bridge Financial Award does not lessen your academic year award. Also, over 85% of the supplemental Summer Bridge Financial Aid Award is in the form of grants (estimate); less than 15% is a low-interest student loan (estimate).
  • You pay out-of-pocket just a $100.00 registration fee (non-refundable).


What Summer Bridge Offers

  • Math courses to give you a competitive edge in the fall.
  • Composition/Writing to prepare you to write persuasive, carefully reasoned papers.
  • College study skills instruction to help you learn note-taking, time management, test preparation, and other essential academic skills.
  • Acculturation to the University environment, including interpreting the college catalogue, career planning, and the use of academic resources.
  • Computer literacy, which teaches you new skills in using the computer for research and for using effectively UCI’s extensive electronic resources.

The Additional Benefits of Summer Bridge

  • Classes in math, writing, study skills, university acculturation, and computer literacy provide an introduction to the demands of university-level work, class pace, and examinations.
  • Priority course registration your first year at UCI!
  • 6-10 units of University credit (depending on class schedule) through UCI Summer Sessions.
  • Development of successful study methods, academic and career planning, student success skills, and realistic personal expectations.
  • Placement testing, comprehensive academic advising and personal counseling.
  • An introduction to University resources, roles and expectations of faculty, campus policies, student rights and responsibilities.
  • The opportunity to meet and form relationships with other entering freshmen.
  • Personal interaction with University faculty.
  • Participation in the social, cultural, and recreational activities of the University.
