Student Program Activities and Services

SAAS offers a comprehensive program for eligible students from their freshman year through graduation. The key features include: one-to-one counseling, academic advising, student success classes and workshops, Summer Bridge, peer advising, new student programming, graduate studies preparation, and graduate exam reviews. SAAS also helps program participants to obtain needed services from other campus departments.

Counseling

Each SAAS student's academic progress is monitored quarterly. Those students falling below normal progress are counseled and provided assistance to improve performance. This may range from working out problems with faculty to obtaining assistance in resolving personal problems. Academic advising for SAAS students is coordinated with the academic counselors in each School.

Academic Survival Workshops

Quarterly workshops are provided for students experiencing academic difficulty and who may be subject to disqualification or probation.

Summer Bridge at UCI

Summer Bridge is an intensive five-week academic and residential program for a selected group of incoming freshmen. It includes courses in math, writing, computer literacy, and study skills. Students live on-campus, and they participate in social, recreational, and cultural activities.

Introduction to University Success

A fall quarter student success course, strongly recommended for first-time SAAS freshmen, which provides an opportunity for students to learn and to adopt proven methods to promote their academic success at UCI.

Freshman Peer Project

All SAAS freshmen are incorporated into the Freshman Peer Project which offers freshmen peer group advising, information and academic workshops, and referrals to campus services.

Freshman Discovery

Freshman Discovery is an innovative and comprehensive academic support program designed specifically for eligible freshmen who are Undecided/Undeclared. Freshman Discovery includes student success classes; academic and personal counseling; peer advising; and tutorial and learning support.

Sophomore Project

All SAAS sophomores are provided peer advising and a variety of workshops to promote academic success.

Graduate Education
and the 21st Century

This is a two unit class for sophomores and above with the potential to attend graduate and professional school. This course provides "how to" information, as well as insight into what graduate study is and why it is important to the individual and to society. This class is offered in the fall and spring quarters.

Graduate Exam Review Seminars

SAAS provides graduate exam reviews conducted by The Princeton Review for selected SAAS-eligible students, primarily of junior and senior class standing.
