Senior Counselor
Angelita Figueroa Salas
Angelita Salas was a first-generation college student, who transferred
from Santa Ana College to U.C. Berkeley. She began her UC career at CAL
Berkeley working as a Peer Advisor for the College of Letters &
Science. After completing a Masters in Counseling at San Francisco State,
she was promoted to the position of Academic Advisor.
At U.C. Berkeley she was actively involved in the outreach, recruitment
and retention of low-income, first-generation college freshmen and
transfer students. Angelita has an extensive background in academic,
personal and career counseling. At UCI she assists the SAAS students with
their current and future goals..
She also supervises 8 Peer Advisor/Mentors who organize workshops and
events for the Freshman Project. In addition, works with the Summer
Bridge coordinator in overseeing the Resident Advisors as well as
teaching an acculturation course.
She is an avid reader, a fan of Pac-10 football (Go Bears!), and
loves to travel and cook. Angelita is currently in her first year
of a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D) program at California
State University, Long Beach (estimated graduation: 2011).
