Freshman Discovery


What is it?

Freshman Discovery is an innovative and comprehensive academic support program designed specifically for eligible students who are Undecided/Undeclared. The purpose of the program is to provide tools students can use to promote their academic success at UCI.


What are the program activities?

Freshman Discovery includes these program components:

  • classes in study skills and coping skills
  • major and career planning
  • academic and personal counseling
  • and tutoring and learning skills support
Freshman Discovery students have priority registration for Learning and Academic Resource Center (LARC) tutorials and course adjuncts.


Who is eligible?

Undecided/Undeclared freshman students who are either first-generation college students (neither parent has completed a baccalaureate degree), or low-income (there is a scale based upon the number of dependents in the family), or disabled (includes both physical and learning disabilities) are eligible for Freshman Discovery. Students who feel they qualify should make an appointment in Student Academic Advancement Services (see below) to determine eligibility.
